Babylon Trust was glad to put together a useful event with Dream Arts Artistic Director Graham Whitlocke. The event was held on 14th & 15th January 2012.

The course consisted of 4 different modules, these included;

  • Introduction to Youth Arts Leadership
  • Leadership Styles, Teamwork and Best Practice
  • Health and Safety, Confidentiality & Equal Opportunities
  • Enabling Leaders

In the course students were asked to Custom Essay Writing Service work in groups or in pairs. The first task was the ice breaker, whereby Graham asked participants to use either their hips or feet to spell out their names and introduce themselves to the class.

For the second task pupils were paired up and had to find out information about their partners, to present them to the group.  This task allowed students to give back constructive criticism to one another and also find out what their presenting strengths are.

As for the third task, we were put in different groups where we had to explore each given subject, these included; Equal Opportunities, Boundaries and Confidentiality. Every group covered why each topic had to be set in a work place with younger people and how a leader can work with each subject on every different individual in a team.

The fourth task involved different leadership styles. Two people were sent out of the room and Graham chose what leadership style they must act out according to their opposite preferred leadership style. The rest of the group were asked to act like young people between the ages of 12 and 14 in a classroom setting, to see how well the leaders could control the class using the different leadership styles Autocratic, Democratic and Laisse Faire. By doing these role plays pupils learned how they could improve their skills when working with a team of various young people.

Students were put into groups again for the final task and asked to pick a topic that was covered over the two days and deliver it using their own methods to the rest of the class within 10 minutes.  Groups used explanations on the board as well as role plays and quizzes to teach their chosen topic.  After each presentation, we discussed how certain methods and presenting techniques could have been improved or which practices worked best.

On completing the course students were all awarded a certificate from the Director of Babylon Trust Mr Shakir Shabaa and Artistic Director of Dream Arts Mr Graham Whitlocke.

The overall outcome of the course was a success as participants were also able to network during the breaks whereby they enjoyed the refreshments served.  They found out more about each other’s personal interests and discussed and shared their thoughts on the course.

We take this as an opportunity to thank the HDF centre for providing us with their hall and for their hospitality.

Babylon Trust is pleased to inform you that there will be more Leadership Courses yet to come and we hope for the future courses and events you will be there with us!

Please keep checking back for more events in the near future.

During the Youth Leadership Course students were able to expand their leadership experiences by participating in various activities and learning different methods and putting into practice skills they had been taught.
